Guitar Amp Repair
NOTE: AS OF 9/1/2016, I AM ONLY PERFORMING REPAIRS FOR EXISTING CUSTOMERS DO TO WORKLOAD AND OTHER OBLIGATIONS UNTIL FURTHUR NOTICE.
I repair all types of tube guitar and musical instrument amplifiers including Fender, Ampeg, Marshall, Vox, Peavey, Mesa Boogie, and Gibson. I do not work on solid state amps or hybrid modeling amps. I expertly test and match tubes using a calibrated Hickok 539B Tube Tester and accurate test equipment, along with setting output tube bias to correct levels, Amplifiers are load tested and monitored upon completion of repairs to insure integrity. There is no extra charge for the time involved to perform load testing. Turn-around times are quick. The only delays would involve delivery time for parts not stocked. I am located in North Orange County central to the Orange County and Los Angeles County areas. I stock most tubes and parts. New tubes are fully tested. Preamp tubes are rated for gain and power tubes are verified for matching. Note that I only test tubes as part of repair operations.
Standard labor rate is $60 per hour. Most repairs take one and a half to two hours.
General Checkup $80 – Includes tube testing, cap check, cleaning and retensioning of tube sockets, cleaning of jacks, cleaning of controls (if required), resetting of bias (if adjustable). Models with dual chassis (such as the Ampeg SVT) are $120 for this service. Most minor repairs are covered under this service unless major disassembly or troubleshooting is required.
Rebiasing $35 (If control is accessible without removing chassis). $50 (If amp requires removal of chassis). Fixed-bias amps are extra if resistor values require changing.
Marshall filament rectifier bridge upgrade – $35 parts/labor (if included with General Checkup). This is recommended for models having DC preamp filaments due to the high failure rate of the stock unit due to overheating. I replace the stock unit with a higher rated unit, along with spacing the rectifier one inch above the board and installing a heat sink.
